Preparing a Resolution

Formatting the Resolution

While it is not required, it is very helpful if you prepare your resolution to follow a certain format. This format is not just an aesthetic exercise but it will help you think through what it is exactly that you are wanting the Central Committee to vote on. The format is:

Title of the Resolution

Whereas: this will most likely be several Whereas statements that describe what specifically is the problem you are wanting to address.

Therefore be it resolved: This section is where you will describe specifically what you want the Central Committee to vote on. This, too, may have several distinct clauses.

Presenting the Resolution

  1. Contact the Chair (360) 459-4024 johncusick@thurstondemocrats.org and describe the resolution that you would like to present to the Central Committee and you will be allotted time on the upcoming Central Committee meeting agenda.
  2. Bring enough copies to have available before the meeting (usually 60 copies) so that everyone in the room can have it to read before you present it for vote.
  3. Be prepared to answer questions during your presentation and be very clear about what you are asking the Central Committee to vote on.
