Thurston Democrats vote overwhelmingly for Sanders

Thurston County Democrats turned out by the thousands on March 26 to cast their ballots for presidential candidates. The vote heavily favored Bernie Sanders, who won about 77 percent of the vote. Hillary Clinton won 22 percent, and 1 percent of the voters were uncommitted.

Voters also selected delegates to represent them at legislative district caucuses and the county convention. Most of the legislative districts in Thurston County -- 20, 22 and 35 -- will caucus at the county convention on May 1. Legislative District 2, which encompasses the eastern part of the county, will caucus on April 17 in Yelm.

The unofficial delegate count as of 4:45 p.m. March 26: 868 for Sanders, 246 for Clinton, and 3 uncommitted.
